KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Ameng from the band Spring has been conferred the title of Datuk after receiving the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) award.
The honour was presented by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in conjunction with His Majesty's 67th birthday.
Ameng—whose real name is Wan Aminuddin Wan Ismail, 57—revealed that he kept the award a complete secret from everyone, including his three children.
"None of them—Wan Az Aleesa, Azeva Natassha, or Wan Ammar Haikal—knew anything about it. They just thought I was going to Pahang for a normal event.
"They only found out yesterday after I actually received the medal. I was so nervous before going up.
