GEORGE TOWN: Seventeen food premises in Penang had their Bersih dan Selamat (BeSS) recognition withdrawn last year for failing to maintain required standards.
Penang Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi said the recognition was withdrawn mainly after these premises recorded cleanliness scores below the required 86 per cent.
He said some premises also had their recognition withdrawn after relocating.
"If the premises meet the requirements again, we give them the opportunity to reapply and regain the recognition," he said.
Gooi said about 400 eateries in Penang had obtained BeSS recognition since the programme was introduced in the state in 2018.
