JOHOR BARU: The special financial assistance of RM1,000 for school bus drivers, announced in the 2027 Budget, is considered timely particularly in helping them navigate cash flow challenges when the school term ends.

Malaysian School Bus Operators and Drivers Association president Dr M. Muruga said the aid is highly significant, given that school bus fare collections typically take a temporary hit during school holidays.

Dr. Muruga, who also serves as the chairman of the Johor State School Bus Operators and Drivers Association, added that the assistance serves as a meaningful recognition for school bus drivers, who have long hoped for specific attention and support from the government.

"This is a form of recognition from the government, and we are very proud that, after such a long time, the welfare of school bus drivers has finally received attention through the 2027 Budget," he said when contacted by Bernama.
