KUCHING, Oct 8: The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) has joined a £3.4 million (about RM19.4 million) United Kingdom-funded international research project aimed at understanding, predicting and preventing African swine fever (ASF) in Sarawak, Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom.

According to a statement issued by SIDC today, the project is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), led by Professor Peter J Dodd of the University of Sheffield, and is one of 18 projects announced by UKRI on Oct 7.

The research consortium comprises SIDC, the University of Sheffield, the University of Liverpool and Thailand’s National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), with SIDC also collaborating with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak.
