The Malaysian government has officially announced it will be raising the minimum wage from RM1,700 to RM2,000. These changes were announced during the tabling of Budget 2027 and will go into effect in June 2027.
However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with annual revenues of less than RM50 million would be exempted from the increase in order to give them time to adapt their business model.
