KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) received its smallest increase in funding in five years under Budget 2027, at a time when health care worker shortages are straining public hospitals and forcing some services to close.
MOH’s allocation increased by RM1.18 billion, or 2.5 per cent, to RM47.70 billion from RM46.52 billion under Budget 2026.
Since the Madani government took over under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, MOH’s allocation has increased every year, but the rate of growth has slowed since peaking in Budget 2024.
The Madani government’s first budget, tabled in February 2023, raised MOH’s allocation by RM3.9 billion, or 12 per cent, to RM36.3 billion. The increase peaked at 13.5 per cent in Budget 2024, when the Health Ministry’s allocation rose by RM4.89 billion to RM41.22 billion.
