Chery Malaysia has begun the recall process for the pre-facelift (FL) version of Omoda 5. While this is the 2nd major recall announcement for the SUV (the 1st recall happened in 2024), the reason is the same: Omoda 5’s rear axle.

The recall announcement was published on Chery Malaysia’s social media platforms several hours after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) said that it has temporarily suspended Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) for the Omoda 5 following a recent incident in Johor where the SUV’s rear axle detached while on the move.

Meanwhile, Chery said that all affected vehicles will receive comprehensive inspections, and any required follow-up actions, including component replacements, will be free of charge.
