KUALA LUMPUR: A Universiti Malaya student representative today put two menteri besars and a former health minister on the spot over corruption, asking what they stood for on the issue and how they would encourage young Malaysians to speak up against wrongdoing.
Ummi Umairah Bakhit raised the questions during a Universiti Malaya dialogue attended by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
She cited reports of alleged corruption involving political figures, including a case in which the son of a political figure allegedly received RM4 million without working.
"So my question is, as leaders with great influence and impact in politics and leadership, with the rising corruption issues in Malaysia, I wake up and hear that the son of a political figure received RM4 million without working," she said.
