KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's long-standing diplomatic ties with China must continue to be strengthened based on the principles of mutual respect and shared benefits, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister also expressed hope that close ties between Malaysia and China would continue to grow for the benefit of both countries and their people.

"Today, I received a farewell courtesy call from Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, who will be completing his tenure in the country.

"Throughout his tenure in Malaysia, many experiences, achievements and memories have undoubtedly been created together.

"I expressed my appreciation for Ouyang's commitment to strengthening ties between Malaysia and China, as well as his efforts to enhance cooperation between the governments, business sectors and people of both countries," he said in a post on his Facebook account today.
