PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is keen to strengthen its military ties with Lebanon, even as the country prepares to conclude nearly two decades of the Malaysian Battalion’s (Malbatt) deployment in the West Asian republic, defence minister Khaled Nordin said.
In a statement, Khaled acknowledged Lebanon as among Malaysia’s earliest diplomatic partners in the region, with ties dating back to the 1960s and expanding into various areas, including defence.
“Although the Malbatt deployment here will end soon, defence ties must continue to be strengthened, including through the embassy’s role for the benefit of both countries,” he wrote following the conclusion of his first official trip to Lebanon, spread over two days.
