KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year-old Malaysian lorry driver was arrested after Singapore authorities discovered more than 800 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden beneath baskets of vegetables in his vehicle at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), in a Facebook post, said the smuggling attempt was foiled on Oct 8.
"Officers detected irregularities in scanned images of the Malaysia-registered lorry.
"The vehicle, which was carrying a consignment declared as assorted vegetables, was directed for enhanced checks after an ICA image analyst spotted anomalies in the scans," it said.
