KUALA LUMPUR: A calm mind, family banter and smart course management helped Malaysian professional Liyana Durisic produce a bogey-free opening round at the Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) on Thursday.

The 25-year-old, who secured the fifth and final ticket through August's Asean qualifier, looked at home on the West Course, avoiding dropped shots despite the sweltering conditions and rain-softened greens.

Much of the credit went to having her older brother and former national golfer Danial Azizan Durisic on her bag to help her go into a tied sixth position alongside Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol, Choi Hye Jin and Hwang You Min of South Korea, Australian Robyn Choi and Julie Lopez Ramirez of Spain with a five-under-par 67.
