MELAKA: The Election Commission today announced that a total of 79 candidates from various parties are vying for the 28 seats up for grabs in the Melaka election.

The EC, in a statement, said 24 candidates are representing Pakatan Harapan, followed by 23 from Barisan Nasional, 16 from Bersama and seven from Bersatu.

Also contesting in the election are five candidates from Pas and its Perikatan Nasional allies, including Parti Wawasan Negara and Gerakan, three independents and one candidate from Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).
