KUALA LUMPUR: Marc Faber, the Swiss-born economist, investment strategist and publisher of The Gloom, Boom & Doom Report, has long been known for his contrarian views and warnings about excessive financial market valuations. Often referred to as "Dr Doom", Faber is particularly sceptical of investment manias, excessive optimism and the tendency of investors to extrapolate current growth trends indefinitely into the future.

His views on the current technology and artificial intelligence (AI) boom are consistent with his broader investment philosophy: a revolutionary technology does not necessarily translate into attractive investment returns for shareholders. While he acknowledges the significance of AI, he believes that investors may be underestimating the financial risks associated with the enormous enthusiasm and capital expenditure surrounding the industry.
