KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia justified their top seeding by cruising into the World Junior Mixed Team Championship badminton semi-finals after beating Estonia 2-0 in Cairo on Wednesday.
Malaysia are also assured of a medal this time, unlike last year which saw the team return empty-handed from India.
The 55-point relay scoring system saw boys' singles Tiew Wei Jie edge Karl Mattias Pedai 11-7, before girls' doubles Low Zi Yu-Teh Xin Ying stretched the lead to 22-13 after outlasting Kaisa Liis Lepp-Romili Vakk.
Girls' singles Carine Tee overcame Marija Paskotsi to give Malaysia a 33-26 lead, while mixed doubles Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal-Zi Yu outplayed Priit Poder-Kaisa Liis Lepp to close out the first game 44-29.
