I am writing to highlight an issue affecting a group of newly qualified medical specialists in Malaysia, following the implementation of the Specialist Work Experience (SWE) pathway.
The concern is not with the need for credentialing or specialist registration. These processes are important for maintaining professional standards.
Rather, the concern lies in the prolonged administrative interval between completing specialist training, completing SWE, obtaining the official SWE completion documentation, and finally being registered with the National Specialist Register (NSR).
For doctors affected by this pathway, the process can be lengthy.
