KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran today demanded an abolition of the entire contract system in the health service, beyond medical doctors.

The DAP lawmaker welcomed an allocation in Budget 2027 for 9,000 permanent positions for contract medical officers, but said this should also be extended to pharmacists, dentists, and allied health care professionals in government.

“Don’t just stop at doctors,” Dr Lingeshwaran said in a statement.

“Contract pharmacy officers, dental officers, and allied health care professionals also have the right to certainty of their future. The contracts of some pharmacy officers have already ended, but they still haven’t found a job. How long do they need to wait?”
