Thirteen years ago today on October 13, 2013, Prof Radin Umar Radin Sohadi passed away.
Malaysia lost more than an academic that morning. It also lost one of its fiercest champions of road safety. Prof Radin understood that saving lives required research, reliable data, credible institutions, and above all, the political will to act on evidence.
Of these four, we have kept the institutions. Whether they still serve their original purpose is another question.
Prof Radin was instrumental in establishing the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).
