TAN Chong Motor Group and SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) are stepping up efforts to localise electric vehicle (EV) battery production in Malaysia.
The efforts will start with the assembly of batteries under the TQ Wuling brand.
The companies signed a cooperation agreement at the 23rd China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) in Nanning, Guangxi, on Sept 17, covering the localisation and completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly of EV batteries.
The agreement was signed by Liu Zhijun, director of marketing and service at Liuzhou Saike Technology, SGMW, and Wan Wei Sun, head of TQ Wuling, on behalf of Tan Chong.
The move is among the first major initiatives under SGMW's newly announced Global 5 Strategy.
