KUCHING, Oct 19: Sarawak’s proposed new Native Courts Bill is still under review by the State Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), with Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai hoping it can be tabled at the next sitting of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS).

He said the draft legislation was still undergoing verification, although he was unsure of the progress made.

“Hopefully, all the verification and so on, whatever problems there are, can be settled and completed by the next DUS,” he told reporters during a press conference after delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUS sitting today.

In his winding-up speech, Sikie said the proposed amendments to the Native Courts Ordinance 1992 were undergoing a comprehensive review by the State Attorney-General’s Chambers to ensure the changes could be implemented and address the current needs and challenges of the Sarawak Native Courts.
