PUTRAJAYA: The Higher Education Ministry and Universiti Malaya (UM) have no intention of taking action against the student who went viral recently after asking a "tough" question during the i-Future programme.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the ministry maintained its position that students' right to freedom of expression must be respected, while condemning any form of abuse, insults or threats directed at the student on social media.

"My position is clear. Respect students' right to speak up. As we have stated, amendments to the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) have provided them with the space to express their views.

"This freedom should also be exercised responsibly, courteously and based on facts," he said in a statement shared on TikTok today.
