NAGOYA, Oct 5 — The nine gold medals secured by the Malaysian contingent at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games matched the nation’s best-ever performance from Guangzhou 2010, more importantly, however, this achievement offers an opportunity to assess how the country’s sporting potential can be translated into even greater success in the future.

These successes came from karate, e-sports, sepak takraw, squash, and track cycling, enabling Malaysia to surpass the initial target of six gold medals set prior to the games.

Squash emerged as a key contributor with Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari having already qualified for the Los Angeles Olympics (LA28) and defended their respective singles titles, while the men’s and women’s squads also dominated the team events.
