KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesia have emerged as the winners of the inaugural

FIFA Asean Cup.

The hosts beat 10-man Thailand 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in extra time at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Monday.

In a tense penalty shootout, Kevin Diks, Dean James, Elkan Baggott, and Shayne Pattynama all held their nerve to convert from the spot. Thailand only scored through Waris Choolthong and Manuel Bihr.

In the 81st minute of regulation time, Thailand were reduced to 10 men when Nicholas Mickelson was shown a second yellow card by Uzbek referee Akhrol Riskullaev for hauling down Ole Romeny.
