PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has requested a detailed breakdown of the medical officers who reported for duty in East Malaysia following their permanent appointments.

It also wants details on where the medical officers were posted.

MMA said despite the health ministry claiming 63% of the medical officers had reported for duty, feedback from its Sabah chapter suggested the figures might not reflect the actual staffing situation on the ground.

Several hospital departments are reportedly experiencing a net reduction in medical officers, while some doctors were doing more on-call duties each month, said MMA president Dr Sivanaesan Letchumanan.
