KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the service tax rate for elderly care services will be reduced from 8% to 6% effective Jan 1 next year.
Tabling the 2027 budget, Anwar also said that a full tax exemption will be granted for care fees of up to RM96,000 a year.
Anwar also said more than RM40 million will be allocated through the Human Resource Development Corporation to train 8,000 people to meet the growing demand for workers in the elderly care sector, while creating employment opportunities in the field.
“Meanwhile, elderly assistance will be increased to RM1.3 billion next year, benefiting nearly 200,000 recipients,” he said.
