GEORGE TOWN: A Malaysian trekker who returned home safely after Nepal's devastating floods had re-established contact with his family nine days after the disaster, Malaysia Solidarity Families in Hope (Masfih) said.

Its coordinator and spokesperson, Dr Manivannan Rethinam, said Low contacted his family on Sept 3 after reaching Tipling, where he found electricity and internet access.

Low told his family he was safe and heading towards Kathmandu, Manivannan said.

He clarified the timeline following a five-hour meeting with Low today, saying the 37-day period previously cited referred to the time between the Aug 26 disaster and Low being reported safe, rather than the duration he remained out of contact with his family.
