KUCHING, Oct 13: Sarawak must sustain development spending while ensuring its economic progress benefits communities across the State, says Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

Commenting on the Sarawak Budget 2027, he said the record RM10.098 billion development allocation reflected the government’s continued emphasis on development alongside the immediate needs of the people.

“The 2027 development expenditure amounts to RM10.098 billion, an increase of RM826 million or nine per cent from this year’s original estimate, and is the highest ever allocated by Sarawak,” he said in a recent statement.

He said Sarawak’s projected RM246 million budget surplus, based on estimated revenue of RM15.091 billion against ordinary expenditure of RM14.845 billion, reflected continued fiscal discipline despite higher development spending and assistance for the people.
