KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed social media claims that a Malaysian university student was arrested in Indonesia for attempting to smuggle 4kg of syabu into the country.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigations confirmed the suspect arrested by Indonesian authorities was Indonesian, not Malaysian.

He said the man was detained by Tanjung Balai police in North Sumatra on Oct 10 after arriving at the Teluk Nibung Ferry Terminal from Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.
