KUALA LUMPUR: Chery plans to build 20,000 vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging stations worldwide by 2029, as it showcased technologies extending well beyond car-making at its Global Innovation Conference in Wuhu.

In a statement, Chery said its V2G demonstration station combines solar generation, battery storage and megawatt-level charging in a local microgrid, with two-way power flow allowing electric vehicles to feed electricity back into the grid during peak demand.

According to Chery, the model has already shown commercial potential in Europe, where a solar-plus-storage microgrid at an electric heavy-truck facility in Spain has replaced diesel generators and significantly cut operating costs. Its planned network would also include markets with developing electricity infrastructure.
