KUCHING, Oct 26: As urban homes become more compact and lifestyles change, Sarawak wants to create more green spaces where families can gather, enjoy the outdoors and escape the confines of their homes.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said urban planning must account for the need for recreational areas and greenery as more people live in terrace and semi-detached houses with less space than traditional kampung homes.

He explained that traditional kampung houses often accommodated several generations under one roof, whereas younger families today increasingly prefer to have their own homes.

“With less space available at home, residents are more likely to seek out restaurants, parks and recreational areas for leisure and family activities.
