BANGKOK: Asean's special envoy for Myanmar, Philippines Foreign Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro, will visit Naypyidaw on Wednesday and Thursday, her Thai counterpart said.

There was no immediate indication of whether she would meet with former democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained in Myanmar since being ousted in a 2021 military coup.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow – whose country is a member of the 11-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) – told reporters in Bangkok on Tuesday that the itinerary "is being worked out."

Lazaro said in July she would visit Myanmar this year in an effort to expand access to humanitarian assistance in the country, which was plunged into civil war by the coup led by military chief turned civilian president Min Aung Hlaing.
