The ban also prohibits vending machines from stocking smoking products and bans substantial discounts on nicotine products. (Envato Elements pic)EDINBURGH: Tougher laws to protect children and young people from smoking have come into force in Scotland, banning under-18s from purchasing all nicotine and herbal smoking products, reported PA Media/dpa.

The new rules make it illegal for under-18s to buy nicotine pouches, strips and pearls, as well as any herbal products that can be smoked.

They also require all retailers selling nicotine and herbal smoking products to hold valid registration by April 29 next year, making Scotland the only part of the United Kingdom (UK) with a register of where such products are sold, the Scottish Government said.
