Hanoi estimates that about 15,000 women will qualify for the payment each year, requiring an annual budget of around US$2.33 million. (EPA Images pic)HANOI: Hanoi will provide a one-off payment of 4 million VND (US$154) to women who give birth to two children before the age of 35 from 2027, under a policy approved by the city's People's Council, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
To qualify, the women must have been registered as permanent or temporary residents of the capital for at least six months.
Under Decree No. 168/2026/ND-CP, eligibility is based on the total number of children a woman has given birth to, regardless of the number of deliveries.
A woman's age will be calculated at the time of childbirth, rather than when the birth is registered, in accordance with relevant civil and legal regulations.
