SIC considers full or partial track resurfacing after MotoGP

SEPANG: The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) may have to undergo another closure for resurfacing works following riders’ complaints about the condition of the track surface during last weekend’s 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP).

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said a decision on whether the resurfacing would cover the entire circuit or only selected sections would be made after receiving comprehensive reports from the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and MotoGP organisers.

He said the resurfacing exercise was expected to cost millions of ringgit, depending on the scope of work and the prevailing price of bitumen.
