KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must move beyond traditional manufacturing and strengthen its capabilities in high-end technology, particularly artificial intelligence.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this is important as the country seeks to navigate an increasingly competitive global economic landscape.
In a Facebook post, he said he held discussions with prominent figures from the technology and academic sectors at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2026, where technological transformation, geopolitics and Malaysia's economic future were discussed.
He said discussions with semiconductor industry leader Datuk Fong Swee Kiang centred on the need for Malaysia to strengthen its capabilities in high-end technology and benefit from the ongoing AI-driven technological transformation.
