KUCHING, Nov 4: Investing in technology alone will not guarantee better public services unless Sarawak has skilled personnel capable of using it effectively, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He stressed that the benefits of technology, digital systems and infrastructure would depend on the ability of civil servants to make sound decisions, solve problems and lead change.
“Technology can be bought, systems can be developed and infrastructure can be built. However, the ability of human capital to lead, make sound decisions, solve problems and drive change will determine the extent to which these assets can be utilised to deliver long-term benefits.
“Strong capabilities and leadership are key characteristics that distinguish a public service that is ready for the future,” he said when officiating at the Civil Service Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
