KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 5: Three Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) students have made history by producing Sarawak’s first semiconductor chip through the Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) IC Design Competition recently.
The breakthrough was achieved by Martin Kennedy Wan Alexander Taylor, Mohamad Iszuanessrol Nasir and Emmanuel Jawin Jerry Tanny, all from the university’s Faculty of Engineering, who emerged as champions of the competition.
Unimas Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the achievement demonstrated the capabilities of local talent in semiconductor technology, an industry that plays a critical role in the global economy.
“Our students have also made history in semiconductor technology when Martin Kennedy Wan Alexander Taylor, Mohamad Iszuanessrol Nasir and Emmanuel Jawin Jerry Tanny from the Faculty of Engineering were crowned champions of the SMD IC Design Competition after producing Sarawak’s first chip,” he said speaking at the 30th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony here today.
