KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) has called for a temporary suspension of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's house arrest pending clarification on the interpretation of his conditional royal pardon.

The A-GC said Najib's existing detention status should be maintained until the legal issues surrounding the pardon and the High Court's order for his release were resolved.

Two possible interpretations had arisen from the conditional pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on Sept 18, the A-GC said in a statement today.

Under the first interpretation, payment of the RM50 million fine would satisfy only the financial penalty, while Najib would remain subject to his prison sentence until Aug 23, 2028, with house arrest serving as an alternative place of detention.
