MIRI, Nov 7: The proposed college by the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak Malaysia (FORUM) must ensure students obtain recognised diplomas so their qualifications can help them progress to degree-level studies, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said students must be able to obtain properly certified qualifications from the courses offered, rather than end up with diplomas that are not recognised.

“Students can study there, but the courses offered must be properly certified. Otherwise, students may graduate with qualifications that are not recognised. For example, if the diploma is not recognised, it may not be of any value.

“So, this is something that must be carefully considered. If students are to use a diploma as a foundation before proceeding to their first year of degree studies, they must make sure that the diploma is certified. This initiative can help strengthen our human capital for the future,” he said when officiating at the opening of the FORUM Cultural Centre here today, which was streamed live on Facebook by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
