Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he hoped the Gerakan representative would help the state government's relationships with various communities.PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu government will give a Chinese leader from Gerakan a position as an appointed assemblyman to ensure the community is represented in the state legislature, says menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
He said the state constitution allows the appointment of assemblymen from ethnic groups or genders unrepresented in the state assembly.
“We made the decision, after considering several matters, to appoint a Chinese (community representative) from Gerakan as an appointed assemblyman. I hope this is good news for all,” he said in a statement today.
