Lao police have seized 521kg of crystal methamphetamine from a private jet that departed from Subang Airport, according to media reports.

The seizure of over half a tonne of the illicit drug - along with the arrest of 13 people, including a Malaysian - marks another major drug-related lapse in Malaysia’s aviation security since the arrest of a Malaysia Airlines pilot in July for suspected smuggling.

Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department director Hussein Omar Khan told the New Straits Times that police were still investigating whether the case was linked to the earlier arrest of the pilot in Indonesia.

“At this point, the information we have is that a Malaysian has been detained there, but he was not among those who travelled from Malaysia on the flight concerned,” he said.
