PETALING JAYA: James Bond is heading back to 1950s Asia - and this time, the fictional spy may find himself not so far removed from a real intelligence story that unfolded in Malaya.

Historian and bestselling author Dan Jones has been commissioned to write a new Bond adventure, “All In”, set in Ceylon - now Sri Lanka - in 1954.

Announced on Oct 5, James Bond Day, the story pays tribute to Ian Fleming’s fourth novel, "Diamonds Are Forever", 70 years after its publication.

In the new tale, Bond is sent to the island six years after independence to track down one of the world’s most valuable gemstones, becoming entangled in a dangerous game stretching from Kandy’s highlands to the ocean floor. The book will be released in December.
