MANILA, Oct 13 — A Philippine impeachment court on Tuesday granted prosecutors’ request to drop two charges against Vice President Sara Duterte, including an alleged assassination threat against the president, leaving accusations of unexplained wealth as the sole remaining count against her.
Prosecutors, who last week requested that a bribery charge be removed from the case, asked on Tuesday that allegations of misused funds and a death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos also be eliminated.
Sara Duterte, daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, has been on trial before the Philippine Senate for months, with conviction on any of the four charges carrying a punishment of permanently barring her from elected office.
