Tesla Malaysia has announced the Model Y L now comes with an acceleration upgrade that reduces the electric vehicle’s (EV) 0-100 km/h time by 0.5 seconds to 4.5 seconds. This is down from five seconds previously and sees no change to the range, which remains at 681 km following the WLTP standard.

As before, the Model Y L continues to be offered in a sole Premium All-Wheel Drive guise and is the only way to get the Juniper facelift with dual electric motors. This is after a revision to the line-up in July this year that saw the non-L Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive being dropped.

While the company’s official release is light on details, the acceleration upgrade is likely due to the new TL2 front electric motor revealed in a filing with China’s ministry of industry and information (MIIT) a few months ago. As reported on Sina, the TL2 rated at 239 PS (236 hp or 176 kW) replaces the older front motor with 193 PS (190 hp or 142 kW). In addition to being more powerful, the new motor is also more efficient, with the Model Y L in China now offering 25 km more range at 776 km following the CLTC standard.
