KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old man was fined RM4,000 today for ignoring a policeman's instruction to stop following a convoy escorting Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the man pleaded guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates' Court to a charge under Section 21(1) of the Police Act 1967.
He faces eight months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
In a statement, Zamzuri said the incident occurred at Km48.5 of the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) at 9.32am yesterday, while the convoy was travelling from Kajang to Sunway Medical Centre in Subang Jaya.
The man, who was driving a Honda CR-V, did not heed a police outrider's warnings to stop following closely behind the convoy.
