PETALING JAYA: A 27-year-old man was fined RM4,000 today for failing to comply with a police officer's instructions to stop tailgating a convoy escorting deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Kuala Lumpur traffic police chief Zamzuri Isa said the man pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 21(1) of the Police Act 1967 at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates' court.

The court also ordered him to serve eight months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

The man, who was driving a Honda CR-V, was arrested yesterday after an incident at Km48.5 of the Shah Alam Expressway as Zahid's convoy was travelling from Kajang to Sunway Medical Centre in Subang Jaya.
