PETALING JAYA: Former health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa today called for a national food safety alert system to allow consumers to quickly access information on unsafe and recalled food products.
Debating the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat, Zaliha (PH-Sekijang) said the proposed amendments would strengthen early action, including ordering premises selling food that could harm health to close immediately for a specified period.
She said the Bill would also strengthen requirements for food and food packaging materials to be recalled or withdrawn when a safety violation is discovered.
