Bagan Serai MP Idris Ahmad says businesses operating in hospitals, including mini-markets, must ensure the products they sell do not pose risks to public health.

PETALING JAYA: An MP has called for hospitals to promote healthy eating by imposing stricter requirements on the types of food and beverages sold on their premises.

Idris Ahmad (PN-Bagan Serai) said businesses operating in hospitals, including mini-markets, should ensure the products they sell do not pose risks to public health.

“When we talk about food, hospitals should ideally be places where we educate people. But today we see food being sold in hospitals that can sometimes be harmful to health,” he said while debating the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat.
