SIBU (Oct 2): Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee has proposed the establishment of a National Medical Service for Sabah and Sarawak to strengthen the distribution of doctors, particularly to rural, remote and underserved areas.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development said the programme should be recognised as a national service initiative rather than treated as merely another compulsory posting for doctors.

“The objective is not simply to send doctors to Sabah and Sarawak. It is to make service there a respected and professionally rewarding component of Malaysia’s national healthcare workforce development while improving access to medical care for communities that need it most. Make it a national service,” Dr Annuar said in a statement on Friday.
