KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW) has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to establish a special investigation team or independent committee over claims that a senior officer received RM350,000 in bribes.

MCW president Jais Abdul Karim said the allegations, which surfaced on social media yesterday, concerned an incident purported to have taken place on Nov 13, 2017.

He said there had been no verifiable official explanation regarding the status of any investigation into the matter.

"MCW urges the MACC chief commissioner and the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board to take immediate action over these serious allegations.

"As an institution entrusted with safeguarding integrity, MACC must demonstrate greater transparency, accountability and professionalism to maintain public confidence," he said in a statement today.
